Tough Guy® Floating Barriers
The floating turbidity barrier is designed to restrict the flow of silt laden runoff from construction or other erodible sites, keep it contained in a limited area and allow the silt and sediment to settle out before being carried into adjacent or connecting watercourses. Tough Guy® DOT Series Floating Barriers are constructed of 18 oz vinyl-polyester fabrics (a 22 oz fabric is optional) to meet all known state specifications. Tough-Guy® .e Series Floating Barriers are identical to their .DOT counterparts, except for the fabric, which is a lighter 15 oz vinyl-polyester. All Tough-Guy® floating turbidity barriers have sealed hems and seams for unmatched longevity and durability.
Type 1 is the most frequently specified barrier in the Tough-Guy® line. It is recommended for construction sites located in protected areas that are exposed only to light winds and to current velocities of less than one foot per second. This type of site may include ponds, shallow lakes, small streams and marshes. Type 1 features 6” x 6” x 4’ flotation logs.
Type 2 is the work horse of the Tough-Guy® line. It has a top load cable and special stress plates for reinforcing the corners and is designed to handle more severe conditions. It is recommended for lakes, streams, intracoastals and tidal areas where current velocities up to five feet per second are expected. Type 2 features 8’ x 8’ x 4’ flotation logs.
Type 3 is a special adaptation of the Type 2 barrier. Approximately 20% of the area of the barrier skirt fabric is replaced with a polypropylene filter fabric conforming to some state DOT specifications. The filter fabric is inserted to reduce the pressure on the curtain while retaining silt.
